Portrait of the Artist as a Toddler
Iris was recently introduced to the joy of markers at the public library. Most of her drawings consist of little dots as she taps taps taps the marker against the paper (which is actually an activity she enjoys whether or not the cap has been removed from the marker). This also feeds into her long-standing love of cards, as most of her drawings are on index cards that she sorts, organizes, reviews, and archives in a little bucket.

lovely!
I'm in Iris blog post heaven, thanks for the new updates.
I applaud your gutsy use of markers, I'm hindering Silas's artistic development by limiting him to sidewalk chalk (outside), fat crayons (only at the table) and a magna doodle.
We tried crayons - Iris eats them. And laughs hysterically and runs to her hiding spot on the doormat when you try to take them away, a game I sometimes tire of. Thus, the markers. (Sometimes, if she notices I'm not paying attention, she'll suck on the markers, which gives her a great black-lipstick Goth sort of look.)
You have made our weekend - yes! we are biased; after all we are grandparents! Congratulations Iris - we love your pictures and the stories that they represent - keep creating. What wonderful parents you are - exploring various media is SO important to the learning experience. Love to all, John and Jo xoxox
